What the frame? Choosing artwork from your photoshoot

what products to choose from your photoshoot

After an amazing photoshoot and the excited anticipation of seeing your carefully edited images, it’s time for your in-person private viewing session to plan the perfect artwork for your home.

If you are wondering how best to showcase your favourite images, what format works best, complementary frame styles and where to hang them – I have the answers for you!

I’m in the business of creating incredible shrines to your love of your horses – together, let’s create the ultimate wishlist of artwork.

Why get your images printed?

I firmly believe that images deserve to be printed, rather than sat on a phone or a computer, not being enjoyed everyday. Your phone is probably filled with 99% photos of your horse, but how many of those do you actually take the time to look at and enjoy on a regular basis?

You have invested in a wonderful experience celebrating your life with your horse, so it only makes sense to commemorate this with beautiful artwork. Imagine the joy you will feel seeing your favourite images every day and how gorgeous artwork will transform your space – plus, think of all the compliments you will get from visitors!

Which products

My price list includes a veritable chocolate box of fabulous options, chosen from trusted suppliers to timelessly protect your memories. During your in-person viewing, I will bring a selection of samples so you can see the real thing, in addition to digital mockups of your images using my clever software:

  • Traditional framed pieces, either individual or multi-aperture, are always a winner and can be designed to fit into any space.
  • If you want a more elevated version of a canvas print, or like the multi-aperture frames but want more flexibility; my wall installations are the ideal choice. These are edge-to-edge fine art prints, encased in glass with a thin, metal frame around the edge. Frames can be hung together, or apart.
  • Albums are a wonderful way to preserve multiple images in one beautifully bound book. My luxury albums include matted fine art prints with linen, leather or leather-effect cover options plus lots of personalised touches to make it your own.
  • For a great gifting option for friends and family, I recommend fine art mounted prints. These are the perfect present that can be popped into existing frames, ideal if you are not sure what frame style they prefer.
  • Of course, I also offer options to purchase high res digitals so you can print and keep forever.
  • Want something completely off the menu? Not a problem – if you can dream it, I am sure we can create it!

Choosing your frame style

I have a host of different framing options to best show off your beautiful images. To keep things simple, I ask my clients if they prefer black, white or wood and what frames they tend to have around the house. I never try to match a frame to existing ones in someone’s home, unless you want me to work directly with your framers. Instead, I look to complement existing frames and decor so the piece fits seamlessly into the room.

Another thing to consider is the image itself; is it in colour or black and white? Is it quite a busy image that would suit a simple frame or has it got lots of natural textures that would be enhanced with a wood frame? I will be on hand to guide you during your in-person viewing on what frame style and size best accents your image.

Typically, my images are full of rich colours and dynamic textures, so I tend to lean towards dark, simple and elegant frames to really make my images stand out.

*Top tip: Ultimately, it isn’t about the frame, it’s about the image. Don’t get too hung up (pun intended) on a frame looking a certain way or trying to match it to the walls/sofa/curtains – the image is what will truly shine.

Where & how to display your art

Before your in-person viewing, I recommend checking out any empty wall spaces in your home where you would like to display your chosen pieces. Get a tape measure out and see what kind of space you are working with. You can even photograph the space and I can input it into my software so we can see how artwork can be accommodated. All of my artwork is made bespoke, so can be designed to fit into any awkward spaces.

You want to display hanging pieces at approximately eye level (approximately 57-60in from the ground), unless you have very tall or low ceilings.

As a general rule, the artwork you choose should be the same orientation and shape as the space it is filling, with enough space around the art to let it ‘breathe’. Letting it hang too close to a table/sofa can make it look uncomfortable – leave about 6-8in from the bottom of your frame to the top of your table/sofa.

In order to have your art stand the test of time, there are a few easy steps you can take to ensure this:

  • When deciding where to display your artwork, choose an area out of direct sunlight, away from extremes of heat and humidity, eg over radiators, in the bathroom.
  • Prior to framing your prints, store them away from anything that might press on the print and do not stack prints on top of each other without an acid-free paper to separate them. Avoid touching the prints to prevent natural oils and contaminants transferring to the print.
  • Albums should be placed flat on a clean surface to support the binding when viewing, and kept stored flat, in its presentation box.
  • Keep glass dust free and clean with a soft cloth and no harsh chemicals
