Autumn shoot styling

Autumn has to be one of my favourite times of year; the trees turning a glorious bouquet of red, orange and gold, enjoying a hot chocolate with extra cream after a long dog walk and the slight chill in the air giving me a great excuse to dig out my favourite Mint Velvet jumpers.

As an equine photographer I am utterly obsessed with Autumn. The colours and textures make for a stunning backdrop to any shoot, the soft Autumn light is just *chef’s kiss*, plus you can have so much fun with outfits to compliment the season. There is a good reason why it is silly season for photographers as everyone scrambles to make the most of the few months before Winter comes.

When choosing outfits for your shoot, the most important thing is that you feel good in the clothes you wear. If you feel good, you will look good. So don’t feel like to have to compromise on your personal style; these images will hang on your walls for years to come and you want to see your best self in every one of them.

However, if you are looking for an excuse to give your wardrobe an update, let me inspire you with some of my top Autumn Styling tips:

I like to recommend you bring at least 3 outfits to your shoot; casual, smart casual and smart.

For casual think cosy jumpers, your favourite pair of jeans and country boots or loafers to complete the look. I am currently obsessed with these ones from Holland Cooper; my lovely client Lisa wore them on our shoot together and after finding out we were the same size, I was very tempted to pop them in my car!

The smart casual look can be achieved by adding a statement blazer to a nice jumper/top, jeans and tall boots, or include a smart shirt like this one from Ella & Cherry as worn by Megan with the handsome Guinness as below.

Finally, make a statement with the smart outfit. Time to pull out that dazzling tweed cape you only bring to Cheltenham races or a bold, tailored coat to create a stunning image. Pair with your favourite pair of Fairfax & Favors!
