Vickie & Niki and their three beautiful horses

On a Sunday morning I visited Vickie & Niki and their three beautiful horses; Arnie, Tia and Possum. We were very lucky to squeeze this shoot in between Autumn showers, in fact the rain held off right up until the final shot!

Vickie was the lucky winner of my competition to win a shoot when I exhibited at the Keyflow Feeds Barbury Horse Trials and decided to share this shoot with her wife, Niki who also shares her passion for horses. As an Army Reservist, Vickie had been training the day before the shoot with the household cavalry to take part in the Lord Mayor’s Show the following week, where she will ride in the parade through the streets of London.

This shoot required some clever logistics as these lovely ladies kept their horses in 3 different places, and they settled on bringing them all to a lovely private yard in Hilcott, nestled in the Wiltshire countryside. We had the benefit of using beautiful brick stables and open fields for the shoot so we weren’t stuck for locations.

The sun made a brief appearance during the shoot and I took the opportunity to try something a little different, creating this unique silhouetted shot of Vickie and Tia. I just love how the light catches the edges of Tia’s face and despite the details of Vickie’s face being lost, you can still see the adoration at which she looks up at her beautiful mare. As quickly as the light came it disappeared behind clouds so I am so glad we managed to nail this shot so quickly.
