Sophie, Lucy, Giselle and Bear at Equestrian Heights

Sophie booked a shoot with me back in Autumn 2022 at the viewing for Jess who runs Equestrian Heights in Melksham after she was blown away with her results and wanted me to capture her two beautiful mares; Giselle and Lucy.

Our shoot got off to a false start when an unexpected rain shower (more like a monsoon) utterly rained on our parade. After hiding in her horsebox for an hour, we decided it was not to be and rebooked for a much sunnier day! This isn’t something you get to do every day, so it is totally worth waiting until the weather is just right.

There are no extra charges for moving your shoot date – as I say to my clients, the weather could turn, your horse could go lame, you could have a bad hair day or just a bad day in general! I want to remove as much worry from your amazing experience as possible – so I always keep my diary flexible so if we have to move your shoot, we can.

We finally got the chance to shoot a few weeks later on a beautifully sunny August afternoon, so it was definitely worth the wait!

Sophie has two beautiful grey dressage mares; Giselle (who lived up to her model namesake) and her homebred daughter Lucy. She also brought along her 1-year-old pup, fox red Labrador Bear, who was bred by Jess and grew up at Equestrian Heights – he regularly gets to catch up with his mum and sister when Sophie visits the yard, which is so sweet.

Sophie knocked it out of the park with her outfits – she brought her full collection of Fairfax & Favor shoes to match the dog collar for Bear, Holland Cooper belt , House of Tweed cape (purchased at Badminton Horse Trials for the shoot), lovely relaxed fit shirt, Holland Cooper top and green leather jacket. If you are ever looking for the perfect collection of outfits for your shoot – let Sophie be your inspiration!

Both mares were model superstars on our shoot, Bear was slightly too enthusiastic to sit still for too long, but we managed to get some cute shots of him regardless!

When I sent Sophie her sneak peeks after her shoot, she replied with “OMG! How dare you make me nearly cry at 4pm on a random Friday”. I love reactions like these from my clients because I know our animals are more than just pets or a hobby to us; they are the thing that brings us joy on the best days, keep us going on the worst day and are the best listeners and friends anyone could want, so being able to capture that relationship and make my clients emotional when they see their images means everything to me.
