While every Season offers its own unique charm, there’s something truly magical about equine portrait photoshoots in Autumn and Winter. It is easy to only think of the impending mud, rain and dark nights and forget about how many wonderful opportunities this time of year offers for your photoshoot.
Here are my top reasons why you should book your equine photoshoot for Autumn/Winter:
Stunning Light
There is something soft and beautiful about Autumn/Winter light. From morning light sparkling in the frost, to evening sunshine filtering through amber leaves, I love to get creative and create stunning portraits using natural light.
Beautiful backdrops
Autumn offers a diverse palette of rich reds, fiery oranges and golden yellows that enhance any equine portrait, whereas Winter offers soft, muted back drops to make you and your horse stand out. No two months are the same, so you are guaranteed to get a unique backdrop every time. If you want to aim for vibrant Autumn colours, I recommend booking your shoot between mid September – early December, with colours peaking between mid October – mid November.
Snow days!
Snow days always used to be a favourite of mine as a kid, because it meant you physically couldn’t to go to school and instead got to spend all day playing in the snow. Now as a ‘grown up’ I love it because it still gives me that childlike excitement when seeing the whole world blanketed in white. If you would like to try for a snow photoshoot I can be on standby, ready to run to you with my camera as soon as those first flakes start to fall.
