Why Winter photoshoots are something special…

Here are my top 5 reasons why you should book an equine portrait photoshoot in Winter.

When equestrians think about Winter, the first things that come to mind are usually muddy, waterlogged fields, horses identifying as hippos, freezing rain and short, dark days.

Allow me to chase away the Winter blues and show you why this Season holds some of the very best opportunities for your next photoshoot.

1. Magical colour palette

Spring has beautiful flowers, Summer has golden hours, Autumn has incredible colours but Winter is truly magical. When all the foliage is stripped bare you are left with this soft, muted colour palette that no other season offers. This gives your images something totally different and almost a fine-art feel when everything is stripped back.

2. Soft light and beautiful sunrises and sunsets

I have been relishing in these beautiful afternoons we have been having, with purple and pink skies amongst a glowing setting sun. The days might be shorter but they are no less beautiful and have plenty of photographing opportunities. If you aim for an early morning or afternoon shoot then you are more likely to get some super gorgeous soft light that is flattering on human faces and just sinks into velvety Winter coats.

3. Jack Frost and snow days!

It might not be guaranteed in the UK but when the snow falls it is truly spell binding. There is something so peaceful and beautiful about the English countryside when blanketed in snow. If you still want that twinkly magic but just cannot wait for the snow to arrive, nothing beats a frosty morning. When everything is gilded in a sparkle of frost, combined with clouds of warm breath and morning light, it can create some utterly stunning images.

4. Horse cuddles

If ever you needed an excuse to cuddle up with your horse, an equine photoshoot is it! Keep warm on your shoot by snuggling up close to your horse – they give the best cuddles after all. During our shoot, you will have two glorious hours to kiss velvet-soft noses, tuck into warm necks and generally love on your best friend. When was the last time you just spent time with your horse that wasn’t grooming, tacking up, riding or turning out?

5. It is something to look forward to!

The best way to brighten your dark Winter days is to give yourself something to look forward to. I firmly believe in treating yourself as a form of self-care and what could be more of a treat than to enjoy an experience like no other and invest in beautiful images of you and your horse?
